"The Duet"
You and your partner will alternate tasks on the minute for 8 minutes. The tasks are rowing for meters and a barbell complex. The barbell complex is: deadlift, power clean, front squat.
For the barbell complex each movement must be distinct. The deadlift will be returned to the floor with your hands on the barbell. Then from the floor, with no bounce, you power clean the barbell. The power clean must be complete with you standing full extension before you front squat the bar. You must stand up completely at the top of the front squat before dropping the bar for the next complex. A complete complex is considered 1 rep.
Let's walk through it: Sally and Johnny are partners. Sally is pretty new to CrossFit and is not too strong yet, but she was a collegiate rower so she is great on the Concept 2. Johnny was a powerlifter before taking up CrossFit and is out of breath on any 400m warm up run. Sally and Johnny will decide upon registration at 9:30am what weight they will do the barbell complex at. Sally is pretty sure she can power clean and then front squat 65lbs but not any more than that, so they give 65lbs as the weight for their complex at the registration table. They decide Sally will begin on the rower and Johnny at the bar. 3...2...1...Go! Sally rows, Johnny does the complex like lightening. At the finish of minute 1, they switch. Sally does the complex and Johnny rows like a whale out of water. They switch each minute for 8 minutes, so each of them does the movements four times. Their score is total pounds lifted+total meters rowed. Johnny did 40 complexes each minute and Sally did 5, so they did 180 complexes. 180 multiplied by 65lbs is 11,700lbs. The rower showed 2000m at the end (of which Johnny only contributed 75, but hey, that's why they partnered up!). Their score is 13,700.
